Hi, I’m Liana.
I help business owners become confident, sustainable leaders—without sacrificing themselves in the process.
I know what it feels like to create a business from passion, determination and a clear vision of what you want it to become.I also know what it feels like when the reality of running that business begins to look very different from the dream.Suddenly, you’re not only doing the work you originally loved. You’re managing people, navigating conflict, making difficult decisions and carrying responsibility for things nobody else can see. That was my experience too.I learned how to run a business—but nobody taught me how to carry one
My career began in early childhood education, where I spent more than two decades working with people, building relationships and supporting others to grow.
For nine of those years, I owned and operated my own early childhood education business. I became responsible not only for the service we provided, but for leading a team, maintaining a healthy workplace culture, managing performance and making decisions that affected employees, children and families.
Like many business owners, I relied heavily on instinct. I cared deeply, worked hard and carried far more than I realised.
From the outside, I was capable and successful. Behind the scenes, I was becoming exhausted.
Eventually, I experienced burnout. The problem wasn’t ambition. It was imbalance.
For a long time, I believed that being a committed business owner meant being the person who could always do more.Work harder. Solve the problem. Support everyone else. Carry the pressure. Keep going.
But a business cannot be truly sustainable when its success depends on the leader continually sacrificing their own wellbeing.
That realisation changed the way I thought about leadership—and ultimately changed the direction of my life.
I became fascinated by the psychology behind how people lead, work and perform. I wanted to understand why capable leaders become overwhelmed, why workplace relationships become so complicated and why some teams thrive while others remain dependent on the person at the top.
Through my studies in business psychology, I found language and evidence for many of the experiences I had lived through myself. More importantly, I discovered practical ways that leaders could work differently.
Why I created Balanced Business
Balanced Business was created to give business owners the kind of support I once needed.
Support that recognises that leadership is not simply about managing tasks, increasing productivity or getting better results. It is also about understanding yourself, understanding the people you lead and creating systems that allow your business to succeed without consuming you.
My approach brings together three important perspectives:
Psychology-backed. Practical. Personal.
The Leader
Understanding your leadership identity, strengths, habits, communication style and responses under pressure.
The Team
Building trust, capability, accountability and a workplace culture where people can perform well.
Together, these areas create the foundation for better leadership, stronger teams and sustainable success.
I combine professional learning in business psychology with more than two decades of real-world experience working with people—and nine years of owning and leading a business myself.
That means I understand leadership from both sides.
I understand the theory behind motivation, wellbeing, behaviour, burnout and workplace culture. But I also understand what it is like to sit awake thinking about a staffing issue, replay a difficult conversation, question a decision or feel as though the entire business rests on your shoulders.
My role is not to arrive with a generic formula or tell you how your business should be run.
It is to help you understand what is happening beneath the surface, identify what needs to change and develop practical strategies that work for you, your people and your business.
What I believe
I believe you don’t have to work yourself into the ground to have a successful business.
I believe exhaustion doesn’t have to come with the title of boss.
I believe strong leadership is developed through reflection, understanding and intentional action—not through having all the answers.
And I believe business owners deserve somewhere they can speak honestly, think clearly and take the leadership hat off for a moment.
Because when leaders are supported, teams become stronger.
And when leaders and teams are aligned, sustainable success follows.
The Systems
Creating clear expectations, sustainable ways of working and structures that reduce unnecessary pressure on the leader.
You don’t have to figure it out alone
Whether you are carrying a difficult team situation, struggling to find direction, recovering from burnout or wanting to become a more confident leader, we can begin with a conversation.
You don’t need to have the solution—or even know exactly what kind of support you need.
You only need to tell me what’s happening.
